Alumni Award for Excellence in International Outreach and Research

Established in 1996 and originally called the Alumni Award for Excellence in International Programs (see also Alumni Award for Excellence in International Education), this award was designed to recognize leadership among faculty members, administrators, and staff members who have made significant and lasting contributions to the advancement of Virginia Tech’s international programs and activities. A subcommittee on international programs consisting of selected members of the University Council and a representative of the Alumni Association makes the selection. Selection is based on contributions to the internationalization of Virginia Tech, global impact, significance of the research/outreach, and sustainability of the research/outreach. Recipients are awarded a $2,000 cash prize.

The name of the award was changed to Alumni Award for Excellence in International Outreach and Research in 2005. In 2008, the award was divided into outreach and research, with a recipient named for each category.
